Dublin Airport (3) Dublin Airport (1)

Dublin International Airport is using prefabricated modular units from McAvoy Off-site Prefabricated Modular Building Solutions for Temporary Boarding Gates.

Project:  Temporary Boarding Gates at Dublin International Airport

Client:     Bowen Construction, Cork

Requirement: Bowen Construction required modular accommodation for the development of a new departures lounge at Dublin International Airport for its client Dublin Airport Authority. The project had a 20-week construction and installation deadline. It also had to be assembled without affecting the airport’s domestic and international operations.

The new €2.3 million lounge provides eight extra boarding gates/contact stands and has the capacity to handle up to 1,086 departing passengers per hour. The development paves the way for a massive expansion programme at the airport.

Our Solution:  We designed and manufactured 170 high specification, prefabricated modular units at our factory in Dungannon, transported the units and then assembled them on-site on the apron close to the airport’s Old Central Terminal Building.

The project involved a close working relationship between Bowen Construction, Dublin Airport Authority and the McAvoy Group.

Among the many unique features at the new Temporary Boarding Gates is new and ultra- modern self-cleaning seating.  The building also includes toilet facilities and plans are underway for a designated catering area.

This temporary gates will be in place for around 18 months while the new Pier D was being constructed directly behind the Temporary Boarding Gates.

We worked with architects D5, construction managers Faithful + Gould, the main contractor, Bowen Construction, and Mercury Engineering, electrical engineers
